SUMMARY:Techniques Workshop on Pacing with Grief
DESCRIPTION:This pilot Techniques Workshops is open only by private invitation\, to maintain richness in a small group discussion. We are privileged to include Gary S. Metcalf\, visiting from Kentucky\, to lend knowledge and expertise to the session. \n\n\n\nSubsequent Technique Workshops may be scheduled on other topics. \n\n\n\nTo be considered for an invitation\, contact: David Ing\, Zaid Khan\, Samah Kamalmaz\, Ziyan Hossain\, Calla Lee\, or Fran Rawlings. \n\n\n\nThe Space for Grief installation has be recognized as a success\, based on two Major Research Projects at OCAD U. After acknowledging grief\, what methods or techniques might be developed next? The Pacing Changes approach based on the Systems Changes philosophy and theory might be applicable. An additional body of work based on Disclosing New Worlds phenomenology may provide some direction. \n\n\n\nThis 3.5 hour session should spark some initial thoughts. Follow-up\, and a potential research proposal might emerge. \n\n\n\nHere are a few references as background: \n\n\n\n\nRawlings\, Frances Quintero. 2020. “Designing More Inclusive Death and Grief Cultural Practices and Rituals.” MRP\, OCAD University. https://openresearch.ocadu.ca/id/eprint/2875/.\n\n\n\nHossain\, Ziyan. 2025. “Designing with Grief: The PACER Framework for Systemic Practice Towards Post-Biological Systems of Care\, Memory\, and Connection.” MRP\, OCAD University. https://openresearch.ocadu.ca/id/eprint/4814/.\n\n\n\nIng\, David. 2022. “Systems Thinking through Changes: An Action Learning Guide.” Web video. SUMMARY:Systems Outing to Space for Grief
DESCRIPTION:This pilot event in the Systems Outings series will experiment with framing the installation and concepts with Systemic Design in mind. \n\n\n\nA Systems Outing encourages social learning through shared experiences outside of the classroom. We convene in venues to consider the ways that their designs enhance or constrain our worlds\, and consider changes in the systems (larger and smaller) with which they are involved. \n\n\n\nThe Method Collective\, in cooperation with sLab\, is hosting a special evening tour and discussion of their Space for Grief installation. \n\n\n\nThe guides from the Method Collective are Ziyan Hossain\, Fran Rawlings\, and Calla Lee. David Ing will host on behalf of the sLab. \n\n\n\nRegister for the November 5 Systems Outing on Space for Grief at https://guild.host/events/systems-outing-to-space-3n7vn0
